Irish esports organisation Phelan Gaming has rebranded as Munster Rugby Gaming, after partnering with Munster Rugby.

With ambitions to become a “global gaming lifestyle brand”, the Irish organisation competes in Riot Games and DreamHack’s official UK and Ireland League of Legends competition, the UKLC.

Munster Rugby Gaming has appointed Valgard Media’s Jonas V. Schurmann as Chief Marketing Officer. He brings experience working with major companies like MSI, Electronic Arts, Google, and GIGABYTE to the rebranded organisation.

Discussing the news Owner of Munster Rugby Gaming, Ciarán “Wings” Walsh, said:

“We have been keen to expand beyond our established esports audience in Ireland and the UK and wanted to partner with a respected club with a passionate supporter base in order to achieve that. We believe that with Munster Rugby, we have found the perfect partner to Stand Up and Fight with, not only in Ireland and the UK, but on a global scale.”

While CEO of Munster Rugby, Ian Flanagan, added:

“Esports is a fast-growing sports market that attracts a multitude of supporters of all ages. In seeking new ways to bring Munster Rugby to a wider audience at home and abroad, we identified the strong performances of Phelan Gaming and we’re excited to be able to partner with them and feel there is a great potential for all involved.”

Phelan Gaming was founded by Ciarán “Wings” Walsh in 2016, and has gone on to become Ireland’s most successful esports team, finishing third in 2019’s UKLC.
