Financial services provider Fidelity National Information Services (FIS) announces merger with Worldpay in $43 billion deal.

Financial services provider Fidelity National Information Services and payment processing firm Worldpay are to merge in a mammoth $43bn deal.

Combined, the two companies generate around $12.3 bn in pro forma revenue for 2018, and estimates suggest almost a billion dollars of synergies could be created by the merger. It is also expected to accelerate FIS’ organic growth outlook to between 6% and 9% through to 2021.

The deal is still subject to shareholder and regulatory scrutiny and approval, but is expected to be completed sometime in the second-half of 2019. The new board will have seven directors from FIS and five from Worldpay.

The new giant formed by the merger will be called FIS and based in Jacksonville, Florida. Current FIS Chairman, President and CEO, Gary Norcross will retain his position in the merged company, while Worldpay Executive Chairman and CEO, Charles Drucker, will be Vice Chairman.

Discussing the deal, Norcross said:

“Scale matters in our rapidly changing industry. Upon closing later this year, our two powerhouse organisations will combine forces to offer a customer-driven combination of scale, global presence and the industry’s broadest range of global financial solutions.”

“As a combined organization, we will bring the most modern solutions targeted at the highest growth markets. The long-term value we will create for clients and for shareholders will set the bar in our industry and will create a range of new career opportunities for our employees. I have never been more excited about the future of FIS.”

While Drucker added:

“At Worldpay, our focus has always been on delivering more value to our clients and partners and making decisions that achieve our growth and performance objectives. Combining with FIS helps us accelerate the achievement of that, now benefitting from new scale and capabilities that will truly differentiate the company globally,

“We are proud to become part of one of the financial services industry’s most respected and consistently performing companies; I am excited about the new opportunities this brings both for the business and our colleagues worldwide.”

Worldpay, which was acquired by Vantiv in January of 2018, is heavily used by the online gaming industry.

AYO.NEWS says:

The payments sector is changing at a blistering speed, with new products and services popping up daily – much of it driven by blockchain innovation and adoption. Undoubtably, this merger really will create a financial services superpower, and hopefully deliver reduced costs to clients worldwide.

4 BILLION DIGITAL CATS: CRYPTOKITTIES CONFIRMED FOR MALTA SUMMIT

Blockchain based breedable cat collectibles game CryptoKitties confirmed for Social Impact workshop at Malta AI and Blockchain Summit.

CryptoKitties, the blockchain-based virtual cat collectibles, will be participating in the Social Impact workshop at the Malta AI and Blockchain Summit this May.

If at this point you’re asking; “what the hell are CryptoKitties”, let me fill you in. So, its basically a blockchain-based cat-themed game in which people collect digital, breedable cats. It was built on the Ethereum network, and is the perfect example of digital scarcity in action – allowing people to collect and own rare digital items in much the same way as offline collectors do.

Anyone who is old enough to remember the Beanie Babies craze in the late 1990s – imagine that, but in the digital world, and with an incredible 4 billion unique cats potentially available to collect. There’s 4 billion because each ‘parent’ cat has a 256-bit genome… so their offspring has 4 billion possible variations.

It doesn’t take much effort of imagination to see there’s an incredible commercial opportunity there – tapping into the age-old desire to collect and own rare things, but with the convenience of the digital ecosphere.

Held from the 23rd to 24th of May, the spring edition of the Malta AI and Blockchain Summit is expected to attract a global crowd of exhibitors from the AI, quantum tech, IoT and big data fields, and will host several conference and workshops.

AYO.NEWS says:

The idea of true digital ownership (i.e. where you can even move and trade your assets between platforms), has the potential to truly revolutionise not just the gaming and collectible worlds, but the entire global economy. Recently we caught up with Sergei Labutin, Executive Director of Ether Dale, the Tallinn-based developer and publisher of unique blockchain games, to discuss just this – you can read the full interview here.

VIETNAM TO GET ITS FIRST LEGAL CRYPTO EXCHANGE?

Published

on

Swiss-Vietnamese commercial partnership could open first legal cryptocurrency exchange in the southeast Asian country.

A partnership between Linh Thanh Group, Vietnam’s largest distribution company, and KRONN Ventures AG, a Swiss blockchain company, may result in Vietnam’s first legal crypto exchange.

According to a statement from KRONN, the companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the production of cryptocurrency and the establishment of a cryptocurrency exchange in Vietnam. And, critically, they say they have already obtained a license from the Vietnamese authorities.

The development follows last October’s news that KRONN Ventures AG had formed a consortium with financial committees from five Asian countries consisting of Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, with a view to building an international wiring system using blockchain technology.

Apparently, following the Vietnam deal, the other countries in the consortium are now concerned they will lose the opportunity to kickstart the Asia-wide transnational blockchain-based wiring system.

KRONN Ventures is based in Zug, Switzerland – part of the so-called ‘Crypto Valley’ (see CRYPTO VALLEY SEES DRAMATIC GROWTH DESPITE ‘CRYPTO WINTER’) region that straddles Switzerland and Liechtenstein, as is known to be collaborating with London’s King’s College regarding AI research.

AYO.NEWS says:

If the joint KRONN-Linh Thanh venture really does have approval from Vietnamese authorities, this news marks a significant change for the previously crypto-hostile Vietnamese government. Until now cryptocurrencies were effectively outlawed, with the country’s financial regulator, the State Securities Commission, prohibiting businesses in the country from engaging “in any issuance, transaction or brokerage activities related to cryptocurrencies.” A temporary ban on the import of crypto mining machines has also been in place since summer 2018.
