DIGITAL ASSET’S DAML IS EXCLUSIVE SMART CONTRACT LANGUAGE FOR CHINA’S BSN
The Blockchain Services Network (BSN) has announced DAML will be the “exclusive standard” for developing decentralised applications.
Backed by the Chinese state, BSN is the biggest blockchain infrastructure project in China, and one of the major tech companies involved in its development, Beijing-based Red Date Technology, will be adding support for the DAML smart contract language.
BSN has been designed as a low-cost and easily accessible on-ramp to allow both businesses and individuals to harness blockchain technology. There is a China-specific version which supports enterprise blockchain like Hyperledger Fabric and FISCO BCOS, and an international version which is also integrated with public blockchains like Ethereum, EOS, Tezos, Nervos, NEO and IRISnet.
DAML is developed by US-based startup Digital Asset, and its integration will allow the interoperability of decentralised applications (DApps) regardless of the blockchain network they were implemented on – making life a lot easier for developers, who won’t have to rewrite smart contracts in order to deploy BSN apps to platforms based on different chains.
The first DAML BSN pilot, which will see the deployment of a DAML application interoperating on two blockchains (IBM’s Hyperledger Fabric and WeBank’s FISCO BCOS), should be complete by November 2020. DAML is expected to be generally available to developers on BSN sometime in 2021.
Commenting on the news Red Date Technology CEO, Yifan He, said:
“By selecting DAML as the exclusive smart contract language of the BSN itself, our developers will gain the choice of using one unifying smart contract language seamlessly and interoperably across every blockchain.”
While Digital Asset Co-founder and CEO, Yuval Rooz, added:
“BSN’s vision is aligned with ours at Digital Asset. There are multiple blockchain platforms available and more coming to market. The creation of a low cost and interoperable tool to unify these platforms is key to global adoption.”
AYO.NEWS says:
Considering the BSN is one of the largest and fastest growing enterprise blockchain ecosystems in the world, this is a pretty major development, massively cutting down the workload for developers, and so speeding adoption and growth.
There is however, a pretty obvious area of concern. The fact that the project is involving close collaboration between Chinese and US companies, makes it vulnerable to political intervention in the escalating trade war between China and the west.
