There’s good news for gaming operators in India, as the country’s second-most populous state considers legalising online gambling.

Reports suggest the ruling party of the State of Maharashtra, home to over 114 million people, is considering following the example of the State of Sikkim, and legalising online gambling. 

It seems the COVID-19 induced economic and financial crisis has caused politicians in the state to reconsider the revenue generating potential of regulated online gaming, with one cabinet minister estimating the state could raise at least Rs 2500 crore (approx. €290M) from operators. 

Taking a completely opposite approach, earlier this month the Indian State of Andhra Pradesh, home to nearly 50 million people, banned online gambling altogether.
