ENTAIN MAKES AUS $3 BILLION CASH OFFER FOR AUSTRALIA’S TAB
British gambling giant Entain has made an all-cash $3B AUS (approx. €1.92B euro) offer for Australia-based Tabcorp Holdings’ TAB racing and sports betting unit.
As previously reported, Entain is known to have been in talks with Tabcorp for the past few weeks. However, despite Entain saying its offer represents the “market valuation” of the assets, the Australian Financial Review has reported it will most likely be rejected, and that Tabcorp is looking for a minimum of $3.5B.
Entain has also stated that, if it does acquire the TAB units, it intends to merge them with its existing Australian online portfolio, which currently consists of Neds, Ladbrokes, and Bookmaker AUS. Given the fact that TAB currently has a number of exclusive wagering rights across Australia, it could instantly make Entain the Australian online betting market leader, knocking Flutter’s Sportsbet brand off the top spot.
Despite Entain getting its offer in first, it may have some competition from other gambling operators and private equity funds, and there is still uncertainty around whether Tabcorp will actually be willing to split its assets two years after its $11B merger with rival Tatts Group – a move which has proved disappointing for investors so far.
Tabcorp Holdings is expected to make a decision about whether TAB will be sold or not as early as tomorrow, Wednesday 17 February, when it publishes its 2020/2021 interim results.

ALL-IN DIVERSITY PROJECT PARTNERS WITH INTERNATIONAL BETTING INTEGRITY ASSOCIATION
The All-in Diversity Project has announced the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) as its latest Strategic Partner.
An industry-driven initiative, the All-in Diversity Project aims to benchmark diversity, equality, and inclusion in the global betting and gaming sector. While the IBIA is a global organisation working with industry, sport, and law enforcement to keep sport free from match-fixing and betting corruption.
The new partnership will see both parties working together to help foster a more forward thinking, sustainable approach.
Discussing the partnership CEO of IBIA, Khalid Ali, said:
“The demographics of sports betting is changing and, as an industry, we need to be aware of the opportunities and challenges this presents. The collaboration with the All-in Diversity Project has two main objectives; the first is to promote diversity within the betting industry; the second is to understand how the wealth inequality in women’s sports could lead to integrity concerns. By working together, we hope to tackle these issues through a series of events and studies that we have planned for the next few years.”
While Co-Founder of the All-In Diversity Project, Kelly Kehn, added:
“Having the IBIA support the All-in Diversity Project is a huge leap forward for us. Collaborating with standard setting global organisations such as IBIA means we can accelerate progress and engage with a wider audience to address some of the challenges faced by sports and sports betting – from the hidden impact of inequality on integrity, to the more obvious issues related to gender and race within the entire sports and betting ecosystem by sharing data, resources and experience and developing tools that work. We are thrilled to have them as a partner.”

This week’s SBC Digital Italy conference and exhibition is set to deliver a timely and in-depth analysis of the latest developments in one of Europe’s largest betting and gaming markets.
The online event on Wednesday 17 February will bring together 750 executives from the Italian gambling industry to exchange ideas about the future of the sector at this time of both great uncertainty and great opportunity.
Italy’s popular retail betting outlets and slots halls continue to take a huge financial hit from enforced Coronavirus-related closures, while the change of government and the tough regulatory regime has created further doubts about the prospects for operators.
However, the online sector has provided a reason to believe that the Italian market continues to offer significant growth opportunities, as a surge in the popularity of igaming led a 45% increase in online GGR in 2020.
The agenda for SBC Digital Italy focuses on tackling the challenges faced by the industry, as well as how to build on the current favourable conditions for online gaming and achieve long-term success.
Pietro Lechiara, Betsson Group’s Managing Director Italy and a speaker at the event, said:
“The online gaming industry is undergoing a deep and most interesting transformation. At SBC Digital Italy you can learn about this transformation from the players who are driving this change.”
The agenda includes panels dedicated to regulation and the prospect of further legislation being introduced, the igaming opportunity, adapting slots to the Italian audience, and effective marketing strategies within the current advertising restrictions.
There is also a fireside chat about the future of the industry in Italy with Fabio Schiavolin (CEO, SNAITECH) and Quirino Mancini (Partner, Tonucci & Partners), who are just two of the 25 high-level Italian market experts taking part in the conference.
The other senior executives and specialists on the speaker line-up include Carlo Di Maio (MD Betting Division, Gamenet Group), Alexander Martin (CEO, SKS365), Marco Castaldo (CEO, Microgame & Director for Betting & Online Gaming, ASTRO), Ludovico Calvi (Board Director, Lottomatica Betting Ltd & President, GLMS), Alessandro Grasso (COO, E-Play24), Natalie Berenato (Head of Online Marketing, Olybet Italia), and Cristiano Azzolini Di Maggio (Head of Casino, Signorbet.it).
Rasmus Sojmark, Founder and CEO of SBC, said:
“We’re excited to be hosting our first event fully dedicated to Italy, which continues to be one of the most important markets for the European betting and gaming industry.
“It is also a highly complex market, which is in the midst of the transition that so many industries have had to face, as customers increasingly move online. The situation is further complicated by regulatory and COVID-related challenges, but our expert panelists will provide more clarity on the future direction of the industry and a host of valuable ideas about the best emerging opportunities for operators and suppliers.”
In addition to the panel sessions, delegates can take in market commentaries on payments, virtual sports, and esports from Mark Sperring (Head Of Sales and Account Management, MuchBetter), Giuseppe Donato (Country Manager Italy, Kiron Interactive), and Paolo Cisaria (General Manager & CRO, Mkers Srl) respectively.
The interactive product display area will allow attendees to connect with suppliers and media brands with offerings tailored to the Italian market, while there will be a further chance to meet new business contacts in a networking roundtable hosted by Alessio Crisantemi, Direttore Responsabile of GiocoNews.

CORAL PARTNER WITH SPOTLIGHT SPORTS GROUP TO PRODUCE CINEMATIC MINI-SERIES

Spotlight Sports Group has announced a new mini-series partnership with Coral to produce five cinematic features and a weekly live festival focused racing show in the run-up to this year’s Cheltenham Festival.

While a weekly live show, called ‘In the Know’ will be hosted by Ross Brierly with Racing Post experts and some great guests to discuss the best bets and key insight ahead of the Prestbury Park spectacular.
Both ‘My Festival’ and ‘In the Know’ will be broadcast on the Racing Post YouTube and Facebook platforms with the content also continuing to be clipped in realtime to distribute the best reactive content across the Racing Post, MyRacing and Coral social channels.
Discussing the new deal and some of the features, Spotlight Sports Group Chief Commercial Officer, Sam Houlding, said:

The mini-series not only delivers a great watch for Racing Post and Coral viewers but demonstrates our in-house production teams wide range of capabilities. ‘This is a series like none other; we’re incredibly excited to be working with Spotlight Sports Group to produce the cinematic episodes. Intertops has marked the 25th anniversary of becoming the first operator to accept a bet online by launching a new in-play sportsbook.
On 17 January 1996, a certain Jukka Honkavaara made history by placing a $50 bet with Intertops for Tottenham Hotspur to beat Hereford United in an FA Cup fourth round tie. Despite the prestige of placing the first online bet, Honkavaara only made a $2 profit on the bet, when Tottenham beat Hereford 5-1.
Continuing its trailblazing tradition, in 2000 Austria-based Intertops was also responsible for launching the first mobile betting site, and just two years later, introduced the world to live betting.
Reflecting on the moment an Intertops spokesperson said:
“We remain proud of our unique place in gambling history. Gambling in one form or another had been around for millennia, yet Intertops brought it into the digital world in January 1996 thanks to our foresight and pioneering spirit, which remains the same today.
“In the years since that historic day, we have striven to stay at the head of the gambling sector, offering entertainment to millions of players each year through our comprehensive Sportsbook, Poker and Casino platforms.
“We will always be the first, but the introduction of our new Sportsbook will also ensure that we remain the best.”
AYO.NEWS says:
Intertops has a fascinating heritage, actually being established in London in 1983 to offer sports betting services via a period combination of telephone, cash and post, to punters in Germany. It actually moved to Austria in 1992 to mitigate the effect of postal delays. But, back then, the internet was still unheard of by most people, and it would take a few years before its potential became evident.
But, 25 years later, the internet has changed the world almost beyond recognition, and online betting and gaming is now a vast industry serving hundreds of millions of customers around the world. We wonder what things will be like 25 years from now?
