The Pennsylvania Lottery has achieved the most commercially successful iLottery online/mobile launch in North America, with sales hitting $1 billion in under two years.

Launched and managed by Scientific Games, the Pennsylvania Lottery iLottery launch has been significantly more successful than any previous North American iLottery, and is said to be on track to exceed $1 billion in sales annually.

The Pennsylvania Lottery is powered by Scientific Games’ OGS content aggregation platform, and the OpenPlatform player account management suite. As part of its affiliate program, the Lottery is currently partnered with around 500 of its 900 retailers, to encourage players to sign-up for online/mobile play.

During the COVID-19 crisis, the Pennsylvania Lottery has seen an 80% jump in iLottery revenues, and a 200% increase in first time players. iLottery sales are currently averaging over $3m per day, and recently hit a record $4.2m in one day.

Discussing the news Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Lottery, Drew Svitko, said:

“Our goal in offering our players the option for online/mobile play in May 2018 was simply to meet players where they are, which is online, and it has been exceptionally well-received.

“During this unprecedented time, we are reminding Lottery players that they have the option to take advantage of playing PA Lottery online games at pailottery.com. This is the only place where PA Lottery players can buy their Powerball® and Mega Millions® tickets without having to leave their homes. This is also another way people can support older Pennsylvanians during this challenging time.”

While Group Chief Executive, Lottery for Scientific Games, Pat McHugh, added:

“What’s encouraging to states looking to launch online/mobile lottery sales is that when the COVID crisis happened, Pennsylvania had a partnership and program in place to protect vital funding—including effective management of the combined retail and digital game portfolio, an iLottery platform and services to attract and retain players, integrated to support retailers while continuing the strategic management of traditional lottery products sold in stores.”

Right now only 13 out of 46 US lotteries offer online ticket purchasing, and only seven, including Pennsylvania, offer eInstant games.

AYO.NEWS says:

To European lottery players, who have long been able to purchase lottery tickets online, it may seem incredible that most US lotteries still don’t offer online purchases. But, given the stagginer success of the Pennsylvania Lottery’s offering, we’re sure this will change rapidly.

Staying with Scientific Games and lotteries, last week we reported the company had secured a new 3-year contract with a major German lotto.
