CANADIAN ESPORTS ORG. LUMINOSITY APPPOINTS MARK THOMAS AS VICE PRESIDENT HEAD OF MARKETING

Canada’s largest pro esports organisation, Luminosity Gaming Inc., appoints Mark Thomas as Vice President, Head of Marketing.

Canada’s largest pro esports organisation, Luminosity Gaming Inc., has appointed Mark Thomas as Vice President, Head of Marketing.

Thomas took up his new role on 1st April, joining Luminosity from CBC’s Sports Partnerships team, bringing a proven track record of building successful and award-winning marketing campaigns for major global brands.

According to Luminosity, the appointment is part of the organisation’s planned global expansion, and will see Thomas lead efforts to grow the brand around the world, forging a best-in-class brand partnerships team.

Commenting on the development President of Luminosity Gaming, Steve Maida, said:

“Luminosity’s mission is to continue to build the biggest and most successful esports franchise in the world,

“A huge part of that is reaching both traditional and new esports audiences with the Luminosity brand, while also building innovative partnerships with brands that share our vision. Mark’s unique skillset is key to that, and is the first step in creating a team of innovators and creators.” 

The franchise is currently enjoying both growth and competitive success, with the Vancouver Titans, managed by Luminosity and in partnership with Canucks Sports & Entertainment, recently crowned State 1 Overwatch League Champions, being undefeated with a State 1 record of 7-0. Luminosity were also champions of the Call of Duty World League open event in Fort Worth, Texas, last month.

Luminosity also fields competitors in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), Fortnite, SMITE and Madden19, and has commercial partnerships with Universal Music Canada, SCUF Gaming and META Threads.

Luminosity snapping up Thomas, a seasoned sports marketing pro, is yet another sign of the major esports organisation’s maturing commercial stance, in a time when major brands, both gaming-related and non-endemic are seemingly queuing up to sign deals with the fast sector.

Just three weeks ago AYO.NEWS reported that Aquilini GameCo Inc. had raised $25m and signalled its intent to acquire Toronto-based esports organisation Luminosity Gaming by reverse takeover of J55 Capital Corp, which could end up seeing the organisation go public (read more).
