The Swedish Administrative Court has rejected Global Gaming’s appeal against the revocation of subsidiary SafeEnt’s license.

After losing its license earlier this year due to serious failings in areas like responsible gambling and anti-money laundering, there has been an ongoing legal battle between Swedish authorities and the operator.

Commenting on the ruling Global Gaming CEO, Tobias Fagerlund, said:

“We are disappointed by the court ruling and do not share their opinion. We are now examining the decision in detail and I assume that we will appeal this decision to the Administrative Court of Appeal,”

Fagerlund had previously harshly criticised the decision to revoke SafeEnt’s license and vowed to fight to get it back (read more), saying that the Swedish regulator had failed to provide appropriate clarity on requirements following the markets re-regulation in January 2019.

Fagerlund has repeatedly pointed out that operators, including Global Gaming, had asked the Swedish regulator to clarify the rules, but had failed to receive any detailed answers.

Though the revocation of SafeEnt’s license forced the immediate closure of flagship site Ninja Casino (read more), Global Gaming has restarted operations in the Swedish market through a partnership with Finnplay (read more).

Given the number of operators fined and reprimanded since the Swedish gambling market was re-regulated, there is surely a strong case that the regulator did botch its duties – providing fuzzy, vague and constantly altering guidance, rather than the firm, clear rules businesses need.
