DITTO TO LAUNCH BLUEBOX BLOCKCHAIN-BASED MUSIC RECORDING & RIGHTS PLATFORM

London-based Ditto Music announced it will be launching Bluebox – a blockchain-based recording solution promising greater transparency and higher royalty collection rates.

The global digital distributor and label services company says the new solution uses legally-binding smart contracts to ensure copyright, publishing and splits are registered in the studio, at the point of creation. The company says Bluebox will automatically track and split royalties for the lifetime of a track.

Dittos says that, after two years in development, it Bluebox will launch in May and be made available, for free, to its 250,000 artist users around the world – including famous artists like Chance the Rapper, Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Sam Smith and Royal Blood.

AYO.NEWS says:

Ever since digitally distributed music eclipsed physically distributed recordings, artists have been fighting against plummeting revenues and the almost impossible task of pursuing copyright infringement. Of course, this has hurt smaller artists, who couldn’t compensate by putting on huge gigs and flogging masses of merchandise.

So, hopefully, blockchain tech like this will help rebalance the industry, make it more sustainable, and help encourage new artists to keep making the world a more interesting place.

In September we looked at how other companies including Bitfury Surround, SoundVault, CJ OliveNetworks, Warner Music Group and Evershare.io are employing blockchain tech to manage music rights.
