SPAIN TO SET OUT DRACONIAN NEW GAMBLING ADVERTISING RESTRICTIONS

Spain has confirmed it will be implementing draconian new restrictions on gambling advertising.

As AYO.NEWS reported in August, it had been widely expected that Spain would implement an Italian-style total advertising ban, as recommended by the country’s citizens’ rights ombudsman.

However, it now looks like some very tightly controlled gambling advertising may still be permitted. Minister of Culture, Alberto Garzón, is set to meet with industry stakeholders to explain the new regulations, but they are believed to include extensive bans, with broadcast gambling advertising only allowed between 01:00 and 05:00 in the morning.

Many also expect Spain to implement a nationwide self-exclusion system to replace the current ineffective patchwork of systems run by various autonomous communities.

AYO.NEWS says:

Though gambling advertising might not end up being completely banned in Spain, it looks certain to get a whole lot harder for operators who, until now, had been optimistic about Spain’s fast growing market making up for headwinds elsewhere in Europe.
