US esports organisation Evil Geniuses has teamed up with America’s Navy (US Navy) for a partnership that includes a video series and mentorship program.
The collaboration will see Evil Geniuses’ Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players help train and advise the Navy’s own CS:GO team, Goats & Glory, and the six-episode video content series, following the partnership, will be broadcast on YouTube and Twitch.
Discussing the partnership CEO of Evil Geniuses, Nicole LaPointe Jameson, said:
“It’s an incredible honor to partner with America’s Navy as they take this step forward into esports. As one of the industry’s founding and most storied teams, EG has a legacy of excellence, teamwork, and discipline—values we are proud to share with the Navy. We are humbled to stand shoulder to shoulder with this incredible institution, and we can’t wait to show our fans what comes next.”
While Chief Marketing Officer at Navy Recruiting Command, Captain Matt Boren, added:
“Partnering with the Evil Geniuses provides the Navy a unique opportunity to engage with some of the world’s top gamers and improve relatability with prospective Sailors.
“The skill sets utilised by Evil Geniuses—problem analysis, risk assessment, sensory perception, and split-second decision-making—are the same skill sets required to succeed in critical Navy career fields, such as nuclear engineering, aviation, special warfare, cryptology, and counterintelligence.”
AYO.NEWS says:
Over the past year all branches of the US military have started to invest in esports, after realising their clear potential for recruitment. Only last month, the US Navy sponsored DreamHack Anaheim and DreamHack Dallas. While, in December 2019, the Navy announced it was massively shifting its advertising budget away from television and towards digital, with esports and YouTube being the main beneficiaries.
As for the other armed services, a couple of weeks ago the US Army confirmed it was sponsoring the inaugural season of Activision Blizzard’s Call of Duty League, and in February the US Air Force announced a partnership with esports events organiser ESL. And, the US Marine Corps is getting in on the esports action too, partnering with Esports Stadium Arlington, Texas.
