Following the incredible popularity of the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series, FOX Sports has expanded its sim racing offering.
As we reported last week, the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series race on 22 March turned out to be the most watched esports TV program in history up to that point. However, even that was trumped by the 1.3m viewers who watched the second race at the virtual Texas Motor Speedway.
And, unsurprisingly, that has inspired FOX to ramp up its simulation racing coverage!
Today (1 April), FOX Sports will launch weekly broadcasts of various simulation racing disciplines, starting with the World of Outlaws dirt racing series.
The first one-hour broadcast will see pro drivers from the World of Outlaws series, NASCAR, and NHRA drag racing, duke it out in a 35-lap World of Outlaws NOS Energy Sprint Car Series, followed by a 50-lap Morton Buildings Late Model race.
Discussing the news Executive Producer at FOX Sports, Brad Zager, said:
“The iRacing simulation platform is undeniably the closest thing to real racing we can deliver to our viewers during this challenging time. While the racing may be virtual, the competition and fun are absolutely real, and we’ll use Wednesday nights to explore a variety of virtual racing.”
While, Chief Marketing Officer for the World of Outlaws, Ben Geisler, added:
“Americans are resilient, dirt track fans more than most, but they are also a proud group. I can’t wait to hear them talking about the sport they love this week, while FOX Sports places it on arguably the biggest stage in sports right now. Our drivers are a determined bunch, they have jumped through hoops to find sim gear and they are putting in 10-hour marathon practice sessions to get up to speed. They will put on a great show.”
