Malta-based sports betting supplier SBTech has entered South Africa through a partnership with online and mobile sports betting brand Bet.co.za.
Entering South Africa
The partnership will see Bet.co.za use SBTech’s Lucky Numbers product and integrate with BetGames.TV, giving South African players the opportunity to be on live lottery draws and live games.
Discussing the news Chief Development Officer at SBTech, Andrew Cochrane, said:
“We are thrilled to enter another major regulated market with Bet.co.za, one of South Africa’s premium gaming operators. A significant amount of collaborative work has taken place behind the scenes ahead of this migration and going live with Bet.co.za marks a key milestone in this ongoing partnership.”
While Bet.co.za CEO, Scott Canny, added:
“SBTech is renowned for its cutting-edge technology and by migrating to its platform we will be able to offer our customers an enhanced, elevated and fully customised experience unlike anything else available in the South African market.
“Our local marketing expertise and SBTech’s product are a perfect match and Bet.co.za is now positioned to cement its place as the best online bookmaker in the country.”
Coping with COVID-19
Like other companies in the sports betting and gaming sector, SBTech has also been adapting its business to weather the COVID-19 (coronavirus) storm.
In addition to taking steps to protect its staff, the supplier has been working with its third-party data providers to maintain a steady flow of events, with an enhanced focus on esports and casino.
Adding to the challenges, the company’s partner sites also suffered a significant cyber attack last week, with SBTech responding by powering down its data centres. The company has since said the downtime was short, and has had minimal impact on revenue.
AYO.NEWS says:
Its positive to see SBTech still focusing on expansion in emerging markets, even as the COVID-19 crisis worsens. South Africa has seen impressive growth over the last year, especially in mobile betting, and could well prove to be a lucrative market for the company.
