DreamHack and Riot Games have announced the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC).

The new Northern European league is the result of a three-year deal between DreamHack and Riot, is supported by European telecoms firm Telia, and will encompass the national leagues of Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden, along with the British-Irish UKLC.

So far a dozen organisations from the included countries have confirmed they will be taking part, including Barrage, BT Excel, Dusty, ENCE, Fnatic Rising, Godsent, MnM Gaming, Munster Rugby Gaming (formerly Phelan Gaming), Nordavind, Riddle, Singularity, and Tricked.

Scheduled to begin in June, the NLC’s regular season will be played online, but the final is planned for DreamHack Summer in Jönköping, Sweden in August. The competition will have a minimum prize pool of 1 million SEK (approx. €92K).

Discussing the new league Chief Product Officer at DreamHack, Michael Van Driel, said:

In partnership with 12 top team organizations from all of the different countries here, the NLC we believe is going to be the best regional esports competition out there.”

While Head of Publishing Nordics at Riot Games, Mo Fadl, added:

“We have been working hard with DreamHack and Telia to really create something special for the Nordics’ best League of Legends players. There is now a much clearer path from the amateur leagues through to professional level and we’re excited to see what the talent here can do on the big stage.”
