DECENTRALAND RESIDENTS WATCH SPACEX LAUNCH LIVE IN VIRTUAL BLOCKCHAIN-BASED WORLD

Residents of the Ethereum-based virtual world of Decentraland were able to watch as Elon Musk’s SpaceX carried out the world’s first private, manned spacecraft launch.

The event, which was also the first launch of a manned space vehicle from the United States in nearly a decade, since the final launch of the space shuttle Atlantis on 8 July 2011, was broadcast live in Decentraland’s virtual auditorium on 30 May.

The launch blasted NASA astronauts Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken into space aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft, atop a Falcon 9 rocket, and was the final demonstration for the rating process of the combination – which will soon be certified for regular operational use to transport people and goods to space.

Decentraland has found itself ideally placed to offer people, and events, an alternative refuge during the COVID-19 crisis. For example, in March, when many countries around the world were subject to lockdowns, the virtual reality world hosted the annual Coinfest Conference.

Decentraland raised USD $1m with an initial coin offering (ICO) of its MANA token in 2017, and as of February 2020 boasted more than 12,000 inhabitants. Using MANA tokens users can buy and trade virtual parcels of land, estates, avatar wearables, and names, enabling Decentraland to make the claim of being the “first-ever virtual world owned by its users.”

AYO.NEWS says:

With so many crazy things going on in the world right now, like COVID-19, an economic collapse, and mass disorder in the United States, it’s easy to see the appeal of spending time in virtual worlds like Decentraland, or leaving it altogether with SpaceX!
