2.7 BILLION GAMERS? REPORT SAYS 35% OF WORLD’S POPULATION ARE GAMERS
According to a new report, 35% of the world’s population are gamers.
Data acquired by Finbold.com indicates that, as of April 2020, there could be 2.7 billion gamers on the planet, with the Asia Pacfic region leading with over 1.5 billion. Europe, the Middle East, and Africa combined are home to an estimated 758 million gamers, while Latin America may have 259 million, and North America 203 million.
Finbold’s research points to an expected global revenue of USD $159.3 billion in 2020, with mobile accounting for 48%, and smartphone games generating $63.6 billion.
Games consoles are set to generate $45.2 billion revenue in 2020, while PC games look likely to rake in $36.9 billion. Within PC games, boxed and downloaded games are pegged at bringing in $33.9 billion, while browser-based games should hit $3.08 billion.
The Finbold.com report notes that the COVID-19 crisis has driven growth in the sector, with video games offering an “escape route for those in lockdown.”
