BETWAY REMOVES PLAYER TRANSFER MARKETS AS PREMIER LEAGUE RESUMES

Published

on

Major online sports betting operator Betway has withdrawn markets relating to player transfers.

The move coincides with yesterday’s resumption of the English Premier League (EPL), following its suspension due to the COVID-19 crisis. Betway says its decision to stop offering odds on the movement of players via ‘football transfer’ or ‘player next club’ markets, will help improve responsible gambling and integrity.

Betway’s action follows two high-profile incidents involving England international footballers this year. In March, Daniel Sturridge was suspended from all football for four months after it emerged he had divulged inside information about a possible transfer. While in May, Kieran Trippier also landed in hot water, being charged with misconduct by the Football Association (FA), for allegedly passing on insider information.

Explaining its decision Betway said it believes “betting on football should be about what happens on the pitch”, and that it is happy to see markets with so many grey areas shut down. The company also called on other operators to follow its lead.

AYO.NEWS says:

With UK gambling under an unprecedented level of scrutiny, and powerful forces now calling for a complete advertising ban along with other draconian restrictions, Betway’s pre-emptive action to avoid more negative publicity is probably a smart move. Of course, whether other operators will follow suit remains to be seen.

Staying with Betway, earlier this week the operator announced a partnership with esports production company Beyond the Summit, and its sponsorship of CS_Summit 6.

BOYLESPORTS SPONSORS COVENTRY’S SKY BLUES FOR UPCOMING SEASON

Published

on

Irish bookmaker BoyleSports is Coventry City Football Club’s new principal partner for the upcoming 2020/21 season.

The sponsorship deal will see BoyleSports’ logo featured on the front of Coventry’s home and away playing kits, and is the club’s highest value shirt sponsorship since the 2011/12 season. After being promoted from the third-tier of English football last season, Coventry is now playing in the Championship.

Established in 1982 by John Boyle, BoyleSports is now Ireland’s largest independent bookmaker, with more than 300 retail shops in the UK and Ireland.

The operator is now expanding in the UK, focused on the Midlands region, where it acquired thirteen retail stores last year – hence the bookies’ new partnership with Coventry, and existing partnership with Birmingham City.

Commenting on the news BoyleSports CEO, Conor Gray, said:

“Having chosen the Midlands to be the base for our expansion into Britain, we are proud to cement our commitment to both Coventry and to the wider Midlands area with this deal.

“We see exciting times ahead for BoyleSports in the Midlands and with their recent promotion to the Championship, we wish Coventry City all the very best in their upcoming season.”

While Coventry City CEO, Dave Boddy, added:

“This is a significant deal for the Football Club and will provide much needed and significant revenue for the Club, helping to support Mark Robins and the team in preparation for the upcoming Championship season.

“BoyleSports have already shown great enthusiasm about their new sponsorship and supporting the Sky Blues, and we look forward to working with them.”

AYO.NEWS says:

With many British politicians and campaigners now calling for a Spanish-style sports gambling sponsorship ban, deals like this could soon be a thing of the past.

As we reported yesterday, fellow Championship club Bristol City also announced a gambling deal, with MansionBet, while Swansea City is distancing itself from betting and has announced Swansea University as its main sponsor for the 2020-21 season.

DREAM11 IS NEW TITLE SPONSOR OF INDIAN PREMIER LEAGUE AFTER VIVO PULLS OUT

Published

on

Online fantasy gaming platform Dream11 has been confirmed as title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the upcoming 2020 season.

The IPL’s previous title sponsor, Chinese mobile phone manufacturer Vivo, pulled out due to the increasing tensions between India and China, which have led to brutal military clashes. Vivo had sponsored the Twenty20 cricket league since 2016.

In 2019, Mumbai-based Dream11 became the first Indian gaming ‘unicorn’ – valued at over $1 billion. It is reported to be paying INR 222 crore (approx. $29.7m USD) for the IPL title sponsorship deal.

Discussing the partnership IPL chairman, Brijesh Patel, said:

“Dream11 as a fantasy sports brand will only grow the engagement of the IPL with its fans. As a digital brand it will give them leverage to create exciting online engagement for fans sitting at home and watching the matches. We look forward to delivering great value to Dream11.”

While Dream11 co-founder and CEO, Harsh Jain, added:

“Being a proud homegrown Indian brand that is made in India, by Indians and exclusively for Indian sports fans, we would like to thank the BCCI for giving us an opportunity to become the title sponsor of IPL, which in our opinion is the world’s greatest sports property.

“We believe that ‘Dream11 IPL’ also perfectly defines what IPL is all about: every team fielding its Dream11 team culminating in the IPL finals determining The Dream11. We are happy to continue building our partnership with BCCI & IPL to further promote sports fan engagement in India, and look forward to 10 Crore+ Indians making their Dream11 for every Dream11 IPL match.”

Dream11’s sports sponsorship portfolio now covers 19 sports leagues and 6 Indian Premier League franchises. In 2019 the company also became title sponsor of New Zealand’s 2019/20 Super Smash T20 league.

AYO.NEWS says:

Though the reasons that caused Vivo to pull out of its IPL sponsorship deal are deeply disturbing (i.e. the threat of open war between the world’s two most populous, and nuclear-armed nations), its undoubtedly presented a great opportunity for Dream11 to further cement its position as India’s dominant gaming company.

BRISTOL CITY TEAMS UP WITH MANSIONBET, BUT SWANSEA CITY DITCHES GAMBLING SPONSORSHIPS

Published

on

One English Championship football club has announced a new gambling partnership, while another has ditched its betting sponsor.

English Championship football club Bristol City has confirmed MansionBet as its principal partner, while fellow Championship club Swansea City has ditched gambling sponsorships, ending its relationship with previous sponsor YoBet.

Swansea City’s new main sponsor for the 2020-21 season is Swansea University.

Commenting on the deal, head of integrated marketing at Mansion, Dana Bocker, said:

“Sponsorship of a Championship team shows our continued focus and support of the UK market. We’re looking forward to collaborating with the club to engage with fans over the coming season and increasing our awareness locally.”

While head of commercial at Swansea City AFC, Rebecca Edwards-Symmons, commented:

“I am thrilled to have Swansea University as our main sponsor for the 2020-21 season. This is the first year of not having a betting brand on our front of shirt in four years, which enables our Junior Jacks to wear the same shirt as their Swans heroes.”

AYO.NEWS says:

With calls for a Spanish-style sports gambling sponsorship ban growing in the UK, the future of partnerships like this is increasingly uncertain. Though Swansea City has found an alternative partner in the form of a university, we doubt many universities can afford to offer the kind of financial support gambling operators can.

Indeed, just last month, the English Football League (EFL) told the government that a ban on gambling sponsorships could force clubs out of business

WINNERS.NET PARTNERS WITH ROAR DIGITAL AND BORGATA, EYES NEW JERSEY LICENSE

Published

on

Esports-focused gambling affiliate Winners.net has announced a partnership with ROAR Digital, operator of BetMGM, and Borgata.

According to Winners.net, the partnership, with two of the pioneers of sports betting and online gambling in the United States, will help it obtain an affiliate license in the state of New Jersey.

Securing such a license is an important step for the company, and will mark the official launch of its operations in the United States, and likely lead to obtaining more licenses in other states.

Launched in July 2020, Winners.net allows esports and sports bettors to research and compare the top betting sites and casinos in their specific countries. In-depth information regarding coverage, bonuses, payment methods, customers support, and other extras is provided.

The new platform is particularly looking to promote esports betting, as it becomes more popular with customers and bookmakers across the United States.

WIN offers four main products:

  • WIN.gg is an esports media platform featuring editorial content, a database of players and teams, live scores, and schedules.
  • Winners League is a competitive league structure based on the FACEIT platform
  • Winners.bet is a sportsbook built specifically for esports
  • Winners.net is a review and bonus site for esports bookmakers

Dima Gulipe, product manager at Winners.net, says the new website has been “performing exceptionally well”, and developers are now implementing further improvements.

AYO.NEWS says:

WIN is demonstrating the kind of joined-up thinking needed to capitalise on the esports betting boom – by offering a full solution with dedicated content, competition, betting, and research platforms. And, with the popularity of esports still rocketing, and traditional sports facing the very real threat of further COVID-19 related disruption, the sky really is the limit.

Staying with ROAR Digital’s BetMGM, last week the company announced it had entered a multi-year partnership with NASCAR
