RUSSIA BANS ANONYMOUS ONLINE WALLET DEPOSITS

Russia has banned anonymous online wallet deposits, in what lawmakers say is an effort to fight crime and the financing of terrorism.

The move will affect around 10 million Russia-based users of services like Yandex, WebMoney, PayPal, and Kiwi, who top up their accounts anonymously with cash.

With many Russian players using online wallets to play at unlicensed foreign blackmarket gambling sites, the new laws will make life hard for both customers and operators.

In terms of the crypto space, though some people do use anonymously-funded wallets to purchase cryptocurrency, the majority of exchanges now have strong KYC procedures in-place anyway, so it shouldn’t make much difference.

Staying with Russian legislation, at the end of July the State Duma approved legislation to overhaul the country’s sports betting industry.
