Italian coffee brand Lavazza has entered esports through a partnership with UK-based organisation Fnatic.
The partnership will involve the “Icons of Italy” campaign, bringing a custom, co-branded map to Fortnite, in a first-of-its-kind collaboration.
Apparently, professional Fortnite player and streamer, POW3R, will tell the lifestyle journey of Lavazza and Fnatic through an interactive in-game experience, with players engaging through a custom map called “Icons of Italy.”
Starting a POW3R’s mansion, players will compete to finish the course as fast as possible, journeying through Italian culture, symbolically represented by coffee-themed customisation and references to Lavazza A Modo Mio brand. Landmarks will include the Lavazza headquarters in Turin, and historical sites like the Colosseum.
Two additional levels will be added to the map over time, and players will be submitting their best runs by posting video using the hashtag #IconsofItaly and tagging Lavazza, POW3R, and Fnatic on Instagram or Twitter. The fastest competitor will win a digital meet and greet with POW3R via Zoom, and a stash of co-branded products, while second and third places will land co-branded products and Fnatic gear.
The partnership will also involve the creation of a two-part documentary chronicling POW3R’s rise to stardom, and how he, with the help of Fnatic and Lavazza helped make gaming a part of mainstream Italian culture.
Discussing the partnership Group Marketing Communication Director and Brand Home Director, Lavazza, Carlo Colpo, said:
“We are delighted to announce this collaboration with Fnatic because it represents an important debut for Lavazza in a sector that is experiencing considerable growth, and we could not have hoped for a better partner.
“Esports and gaming is an interesting, challenging world, perfectly in line with the brand’s desire to relate to young people through tools and languages that are more appropriate to them”.
While Partner Development Director at Fnatic, Craig Santicchia, added:
“Fnatic and Lavazza share the same values including a strong sense of heritage, a passion for work ethic and an unrelenting drive to be the best.
“This partnership is a taste of what’s to come from our two brands as we continue pushing boundaries and activating inside the most relevant platforms for Gen Z. Helping Lavazza enter the industry in a fun, disruptive way via these digital experiences shows that the only limitation is our imagination.”
AYO.NEWS says:
There’s obviously a natural vibe between coffee and video gaming, with players wanting that caffeine fix to stay alert, and we’ve seen plenty of partnerships between beverage brands and esports organisations. But, Lavazza and Fnatic have really pulled out the stops to take this collaboration to a new level, which is pretty dramatic for a brand’s first entry to esports. It will be interesting to see how well this engages fans.
Staying with Fnatic, last week it became the first UK-based esports organisation to sign a British music artist, teaming up with rapper Lukman Odunaike, aka Not3s.

Canadian gaming and esports company Enthusiast Gaming is preparing to list in the United States on the NASDAQ stock exchange.
The Canadian company, which is already listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange, says it has applied to list its common shares on the NASDAQ Capital Market in the United States, with the aim of broadening its investor base and enabling further expansion.
When complete, Enthusiast Gaming will be the first publicly traded gaming and esports company on the NASDAQ.
Regarding the planned listing CEO of Enthusiast Gaming, Adrian Montegomery, said:
“We continue to see strong interest from investors both in the U.S. and internationally. A U.S. listing has been on our radar as one of the many strategies to execute as part of our business plan.
“On the back of the transformative acquisition of Omnia Media in Q3, the timing is right to proceed with a listing. The U.S. is the largest capital market in the world and our most prominent territory in terms of both the Company’s audience and revenue. A NASDAQ listing is a natural next step for the company.”
Enthusiast Gaming’s portfolio includes Overwatch League franchise Vancouver Titans, Call of Duty League team Seattle Surge, and international esports organisation Luminosity Gaming. Other assets include Destructoid, The Escapist, and Canada’s biggest gaming expo, Enthusiast Gaming Live Expo (EGLX), and Europe’s largest mobile gaming event, Pocket Gamer Connects.
The company also has a veritable social media empire, featuring over 1,000 YouTube channels, and says its content now reaches over 300 million gamers per month, including around 65 million predominately Millennials and Gen Zs in the US alone.
In August, the company also announced it had entered an agreement to acquire Los Angeles-based Omnia Media for approximately $34.1M USD. It also agreed a $11.25M financing deal with a Canaccord Genuity Corp.-led syndicate of underwriters.
AYO.NEWS says:
Enthusiast Gaming is hardly what you’d call ‘small fry’ as things stand, so its US listing hints at some pretty ambitious expansion plans in the near future, likely involving some interesting acquisitions.

Chewing gum brand Stimorol has been named sponsor of BLAST Premier’s Fall Final CS:GO competition in December.
It’s not the first time the brand has partnered with the tournament organiser, having first teamed up for the BLAST Pro Series event in Copenhagen’s Royal Arena in November 2019 – which was won by FaZe Clan in front of a sold out 12K+ audience.
Although, due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the upcoming BLAST Premier Fall Final won’t be taking place in the Royal Arena, BLAST and Stimorol will be creating campaigns, activations, and activities to engage, reward, and excite fans tuning in from around the world, and particularly local fans in Denmark itself.
Stimorol’s branding will feature across BLAST’s CS:GO event, there will be branded content opportunities, giveaways, and a bespoke playable CS:GO map. To mark the launch of the partnership, BLAST and Stimorol have also created a three-part video series celebrating players’ quirks.
Commenting on the partnership Commercial Director at BLAST, Leo Matlock, said:
“Stimorol are a renowned FMCG brand and we are delighted to partner with them again to engage BLAST fans, and bring their products closer to the world of esports. The Fall Final is one of the most highly anticipated events of our year where we expect millions of viewers to be tuning in, it’s great to have Stimorol on board ahead of December’s tournament.”
While Brand Manager for Mondelez International, Jesper Fruensgaard, added:
“We are very excited to connect and engage with the huge fan base of BLAST. Chewing gum is a highly relevant product for esports as it helps you concentrate. Studies suggest that chewing gum can help you stay focused for longer and improve concentration in visual memory tasks. Stimorol wants to help esports players enhance their concentration and ultimately improve performance. So come on guys – gumcentrate!”
Both BLAST and Stimorol were founded in Denmark, with the chewing gum brand founded way back in 1915.
The Fall Final is set to run from 8-13 December, and will be BLAST Premier’s final event of 2020, with the world’s best CS:GO teams battling it out for $425,000 USD prize money and a place in January’s Global Final.
AYO.NEWS says:
Though it’s obviously disappointing that the Fall Final won’t be taking place as a live physical event, it’s great to see Stimorol is continuing to support BLAST through what are very difficult times, and we’re sure there’ll be plenty of creative flair employed to ensure things remain exciting.
Staying with BLAST, last month China-based Nubia Technology was announced as the first ever mobile phone partner of the BLAST Premier Counter-Strike Fall Series.

Gaming peripherals brand HyperX has signed 25 new influencers and esports names as brand ambassadors.
The company, which is a subsidiary of California-based Kingston Technology Inc., launched its brand ambassador program, called ‘HyperX Heroes’, last year through its WE’RE ALL GAMERS campaign, which featured singer Post Malone, streamer Imane ‘Pokimane’ Anys, and athletes Gordon Hayward and JuJu Smith-Schuster (who last month launched his own esports organisation, Team Diverge).
The latest batch joining the company’s HyperX Heroes program includes talent from across Europe, North America, Latin American, Asia, and Oceania. They include YouTube Gaming streamer Rachell ‘Valkyrae’ Hofstetter, South Korean League of Legends Player Kim ‘Deft’ Hyuk-gyu, Aussie YouTuber ‘Lachlan,’ content creator Sebastien ‘AlphaCast’ Ferezis, hockey player ‘Filip Forsberg’, musician and streamer Nicolas ‘Oscurlod’ Sebastian Odetti, and pro NBA 2K player Artreyo ‘Dimez’ Boyd.
Commenting on the news director of corporate marketing at HyperX, Daniel Kelley, said:
“What started out as the initial introduction of the WE’RE ALL GAMERS campaign has grown to become a worldwide HyperX Heroes programme, uniting popular streamers, content creators, celebrities, esports stars and well-known athletes through their passion for gaming.
“As gaming lifestyles and cultures collide with the worlds of sports, fashion, gaming, music and more, we continue to prove that HyperX is a champion of all gamers through our extensive HyperX Heroes roster.”
AYO.NEWS says:
It’s great to see HyperX sign such a diverse range of talent, including gamers, streamers, content creators, athletes, and artists from all over the world. Given their combined reach and engagement, this is obviously going to help keep the HyperX brand highly visible, and we’re sure the program will continue to expand.

Esports and gaming brand XSET has welcomed another high profile talent, in the form of 33-year-old BMX rider Nigel Sylvester.
Though best known as a pro BMX athlete, Sylvester has also turned his hand to digital content creation and art, and has amassed well over a million social media followers. He’s also landed commercial deals with the likes of Nike, Mercedes-Benz, Oakley, Ethika, DFNS, Specialized Bicycle Components, Buzzfeed, and Animal Bikes.
Discussing his reasons for joining XSET, Sylvester said:
“I’ve been able to use my platform to highlight so many different things, from cycling to BMX, to music, to art, fashion, travel, technology.
“I think XSET is the same. They’re highlighting all these different things with a strong emphasis on gaming. We have aligned visions on the things we want to execute in the gaming space as far as pushing it forward and being progressive in our thinking. Bringing communities together is something that’s important to both of us and together we’re stronger and can do that in the right way, which I think can be impactful and meaningful.”
Founded earlier this year by former FaZe Clan executives Greg Selkoe, Clinton Sparks, and Wil Eddins, and Framerate’s Marco Mereu, XSET is aiming to be the most diverse and inclusive organisation in the gaming and esports ecosphere. The organisation currently fields teams in Fortnite, Valorant, Rocket League, and Call of Duty: Warzone.
At the end of October, XSET announced rapper Swae Lee as the first hip hop artist to join its ranks.
AYO.NEWS says:
When XSET was first launched back in July, it is understandable that many were wary of its lofty claims regarding diversity and inclusivity – after all, these days virtually every brand rolls out the right words, but few live up to the ideals.
But, several months later, XSET does seem to be following a genuinely refreshing trajectory, attracting talent and followers from all walks of life. And, given Sylvester’s seemingly limitless energy for treading (and riding) new paths, we’re sure he’ll bring a lot of fresh perspectives and ideas to an already vibrant organisation.

ESL has struck a deal with the DFL German Football League to further develop the Virtual Bundesliga (VBL).
The partnership will see MTG-owned esports tournament organiser ESL take care of all media production for the national VBL competitions. The Grand Final tournament and Club Championship, which kick off next week, will also benefit from editorial support on ESL’s social media channels.
As part of the deal, ESL has also been granted media rights to the VBL, which it intends to license to third-party distribution partners. The 26 clubs participating in the VBL Club Championship (up from 22 in previous seasons) will also be authorised to broadcast and report on their own games.
In 2012, the German Football League (DFL), which oversees the country’s top two football divisions, became the first pro football league to launch an eFootball competition with the VBL. Virtual Bundesliga competitions are organised by the DFL in partnership with game publisher Electronic Arts (EA). The VBL is divided into the VBL Open, VBL Club Championship, VBL Playoffs, and VBL Grand Final.
Regarding the agreement Co-CEO of ESL, Ralf Reichert, said:
“EFootball has been an integral part of the esports community and ESL for many years. Together with the DFL, Germany’s most important sports league, we want to develop the VBL into a renowned sports league to take it to the next level.”
While EVP Digital Innovation at DFL, Andreas Heyden, added:
“The Virtual Bundesliga is already the most authentic representation of a soccer league in EA Sports FIFA. We would like to continue to establish it as a digital competition.
“With ESL, we have won a partner who has already proven that they can successfully set up esports competitions and communities worldwide – including in the field of soccer simulations. We want to make the VBL even more tangible and exciting and the ESL brings the necessary experience and passion to achieve exactly that.”
AYO.NEWS says:
Putting media production and development in the hands of ESL seems like a pretty safe bet on the part of the DFL, and should help catalyse the growth of the Virtual Bundesliga to entirely new levels.
