SUPERGEN GROUP STARTS WORK ON $1.5B SHANGHAI ESPORTS CENTRE

SuperGen Group, the parent company of Chinese esports organisation Edward Gaming (EDG), has started work on a $1.5B USD cultural and esports centre in Shanghai. 

The company has commenced construction on its “Shanghai International Culture and Creative Esports Center” in the Minhang District, with work expected to be completed by 2023. 

In addition to housing EDG’s new home venue and offices, the centre will also feature a 6K capacity esports entertainment venue, a five-star esports-themed hotel, an indoor skydiving facility, a breakdancing venue, and numerous other attractions. 

The development covers approximately 500,000 square meters, and the initial phase costs over $775M, with a total cost projected at $1.55B. 

When completed, it is hoped to host around 300 international esports competitions at the centre each year, and welcome up to 10,000 visitors per day. SuperGen Group says that the project will attract hundreds of companies, and create around 2,000 esports related jobs.

Still, if the world is back to some kind of normality by 2023, we’re sure the centre will help Shanghai strengthen its position as a global esports hub.
