BBC BOOSTS ESPORTS OFFERING WITH UKLC COVERAGE

The BBC has strengthened its commitment to esports again, broadcasting the UK League Championship (UKLC) in 2021. 

Yesterday (Sun. 17 Jan.), the broadcaster kicked off its live coverage of the UKLC’s 2021 Spring Split, which is scheduled to last eight weeks. Viewers can tune in via the BBC iPlayer, BBC Sport online and its app channels, on Sunday and Monday evenings until 22 February, with the Semi-Finals and  Grand Final slated for 28 March and 1 February. 

However, unlike 2020, the BBC has only confirmed it will be covering the UKLC, and not the NLC. The UKLC is the UK and Ireland’s premier League of Legends competition – one step below the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC), which involves the top teams from across Finland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, the UK, and Ireland. 

Recently, the BBC also announced it would be covering the tenth edition of the Rocket League Championship Series, and BLAST Premier’s Counter-Strike circuit. 

As previously reported, the BBC has also produced a five-part documentary series, Fight for First: EXCEL ESPORTS, voiced by Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee Cillian Murphy, which follows the EXCEL team as they experience the highs and lows of competing in Europe’s biggest esports league.
