B’HAM CITY UNIVERSITY ESPORTS MANAGEMENT COURSE ACCREDITED BY CMI

The newly launched BA (Hons) Esports Management Course from Birmingham City University, has been accredited by the Chartered Management Institute (CMI). 

The new 3-year course covers both mainstream business and management theory with esports-specific elements, including technology, digital innovation, marketing, events, operations, and analytics. 

Internships, placements, project fieldwork, and workshops are also provided to help students develop the skills needed to enter the sector, and the university is working with well known industry partners like ESL. 

Commenting on the news Subject Group Leader at Birmingham City University, Dr Richard Oddy, said:

“The Esports Management course has been a great success to date and the CMI accreditation further validates its strong links to industry and our commitment to developing work ready graduates and esports leaders of the future.”

Thanks to the CMI accreditation, students will also become members of the CMI community over over 140,000 managers and leaders spanning multiple sectors.

With the rapid growth of esports, and the wider video gaming industry, there has been fairly widespread criticism of educational institutions for failing to keep pace. So, on the surface at least, it seems positive that Birmingham City University is making attempts to change that. 

Of course, with studying in the UK now extremely expensive, and students regularly racking up debts of £30K+ before they’ve even graduated, there will be a lot of scrutiny on whether such courses actually provide real value-for-money.
