DR BRINCAT APPOINTED NEW CEO OF MALTA GAMING AUTHORITY
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has appointed Dr Carl Brincat as its new Chief Executive Officer, with immediate effect.
A lawyer by profession, Brincat was previously Chief Legal & Enforcement Officer of the MGA, and has been with the authority for more than six years – for the past four of which he has been part of the authority’s strategic direction and high-level regulatory committees.
Brincat sits on the Board of the Financial Intelligence Analysis Unit, and is a member of the Chamber of Advocates (Malta) the International Masters of Gaming Law (IMGL), and the International Association of Gambling Regulators (IAGR). He has also been a regular speaker at both local and international conferences relating to gaming and regulatory issues.
Commenting on this appointment, Brincat said:
“It is an honour to be selected to lead the organisation at such a critical juncture for the MGA and the industry alike. I am proud of the work that has been done by the Authority so far in raising regulatory standards and committed to ensuring that we continue along this path.
“However, it is essential that we cultivate stronger partnerships with other regulators and stakeholders, and the industry itself, to achieve a regulatory environment that accomplishes the MGA’s objectives as set out in the law in the most effective, transparent, and proportionate manner.”
AYO.NEWS says:
With the gaming industry more critical than ever to Malta’s economy due to the COVID-19 crisis destroying sectors like tourism, the island nation’s legal and financial affairs under unprecedented international scrutiny, and increasing competition from other gambling hubs, Brincat and the MGA have their work cut out to keep the jurisdiction healthy over the coming months and years.
