MISFITS GAMING GROUP & SOFI RENEW LANDMARK PARTNERSHIP
Florida-based esports organisation Misfits Gaming Group (MGG) has renewed its landmark partnership with fintech company SoFi.
In 2019, SoFi became the first fintech company to enter the esports space, through its agreement with MGG, and says the result has been a 56% increase in brand trust.
The extended partnership is being headlined by an in-game jersey patch activation during Call of Duty League broadcasts – an Activision-Blizzard first. This new top-tier inventory is designed to provide visibility for sponsors that equals other major sports leagues, like the NBA jersey patch, and create valuable additional revenue streams for esports organisations.
SoFi will also be presenting sponsor for the Florida Mutineers (MGG’s Call of Duty League franchise), and the Florida Mayhem (MGG’s Overwatch League franchise). Both will collaborate with SoFi to create original content focused on personal finance and financial literacy. Content will be published across team channels and MGG influencers, and will also result in SoFi’s TikTok debut.
“SoFi wants to build an authentic relationship with gamers to guide them on a path to financial independence,” said SoFi’s Chief Marketing Officer Lauren Stafford Webb.
“We have built trust with SoFi to create innovative content to connect with our fans and to become one of the most fun, authentic and engaged brands on social,” said MGG’s Chief Revenue Officer Lagen Nash.

Any partnership renewal is a good sign, but an expansion like this speaks volumes. Although some are still skeptical about the value of esports sponsorships, this deal proves that, for the right product, esports provide the perfect platform to deeply engage with potential customers.
