MICROSOFT CONFIRMS HALO INFINITE ESPORTS EVENT SET FOR AUTUMN

After being postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 crisis, it looks like Microsoft is determined to press ahead with Halo Infinite esports in 2021. 

Microsoft had intended Halo Infinite to be a launch title for its Xbox Series X console last autumn, but pandemic related delays meant the game wasn’t ready. The title is now expected to go live in autumn this year, and plans for its first official esports event have been announced.

According to Tahir Hasandjekic, Microsoft’s Halo Esports Lead, a date and venue have been locked in for sometime this autumn – although specific dates have not yet been made public. 

Despite having a loyal following, Halo has always struggled to gain traction in the competitive esports scene. 

Fortunately for Microsoft, the Xbox Series X launch went extremely well, and the general growth in video gaming and esports during the pandemic means there’ll probably be more appetite for Halo Infinite come this autumn than there was last year. 

But, despite Microsoft’s announcement, as with all plans these days, they should be taken with a pinch of salt, because the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by emerging variants, may well have more surprises up its sleeve. 

Staying with Microsoft, earlier this month the company announced a dramatic reduction in its revenue share on PC games at the Windows store.
