PointsBet has teamed up with the NFL’s Chicago Bears, as the team’s first ever sports betting sponsor.

The partnership will see PointsBet granted full usage rights for the Bears’ IP, marks, and logos. Bears fans will also be offered a special sign-up code for the PointsBet mobile app, giving them access to special offers.

Commenting on the partnership PointsBet US CEO, Johnny Aitken, said:

“The PointsBet team is incredibly excited to become the first legal sportsbook partner in Chicago Bears history.

“We are teaming up with a first-class organisation, supported by extremely passionate fans.

“Since launching our fast and differentiated mobile sports betting app in Illinois, we’ve been thrilled by the reception from Chicago sports bettors.”

PointsBet recently launched mobile sports betting in Illinois, through a partnership with Hawthorne Race Course. The operator has also entered into a major five-year media partnership with NBC Universal, in a deal with close to $400m USD.

In addition to the Chicago Bears, PointsBet also recently signed a similar deal with the Indianapolis Colts (NFL), and has partnerships with the Detroit Tigers (MLB), Colorado Avalanche (NHL), and Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers (NBA).

AYO.NEWS says:

With the United States seeing some serious consolidation among the major powers in the form of the now massive Caesars Entertainment (merged with Eldorado Resorts and possibly soon incorporating William Hill), MGM and GVC’s joint venture Roar Digital, and the new Flutter Entertainment (merged with The Stars Group, and including FanDuel), PointsBet is clearly rushing to get as much market share and brand awareness as possible before the real war for US bettors begins.

‘THE MUSCLES FROM BRUSSELS’ IS BACK FOR ANOTHER 777.BE CAMPAIGN

Published

on

Online sportsbook and casino operator 777.be has extended its contract with Belgium’s most famous Hollywood star, Jean-Claude Van Damme, through 2022.

The operator will be launching a new campaign featuring Van Damme later this week, across national television, plus YouTube and other digital channels. In keeping with today’s socially responsible climate, the new campaign casts Van Damme as a “benevolent hero” on a mission to teach customers about knowing their limits.

Commenting on the news Head of Gaming at 777.be, Jean-Christophe Choffray, said:

“We are delighted to have Jean-Claude Van Damme on board to help us educate our players about responsible game play. Moderation is essential, and with this campaign Van Damme very effectively combines his talents and humour to get this very important message across to our players.”

Van Damme originally teamed up with 777.be back in March 2019, starring in two TV spots, and becoming the face of the online casino and sportsbook. According to the company, the ads featuring the martial arts legend have racked up 13 million views on YouTube alone.

AYO.NEWS says:

777.be are demonstrating that the power of celebrity can also be harnessed to deliver advertising that also educates about responsible gambling – something the UK’s Committees of Advertising Practice (CAP) might want to pay attention to, given their conviction that celebrities should be banned from gambling advertising.

EUROPE’S NEW ‘GAMBLING FRONTIER’ COMES UNDER THE SPOTLIGHT AT SBC DIGITAL SUMMIT CIS

Published

on

The huge potential of the betting and gaming markets in Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Georgia is set to be a central theme of SBC Digital Summit CIS on 4 – 5 November.

The virtual conference and exhibition comes as many operators are seeking new opportunities away from the fierce competition in Europe’s established regulated markets, while at the same time some governments in the CIS region have identified gambling as a potentially lucrative source of tax revenue.

SBC and its local partner, Sports Media Holding, have compiled an agenda that will see 75 senior executive speakers examine what the rapidly-changing market conditions mean for operators and suppliers, where the largest opportunities are located, and how to make the most of them.

Georgia is the example that many in the industry would like to see the rest of the region follow. It has regulated land-based casinos, betting shops and gaming halls, with licence holders also permitted to offer equivalent online activities.

As a result, the gambling industry has become a vital part of the Georgian economy, accounting for 8.4% of the country’s total business revenue in 2017. Operators generate more than GEL135 million (€35.3 million) a year in taxes, while the thriving casino resorts are an important driver of income for the tourism sector.

The potential of the online market, which has achieved a 40% compound annual growth rate since 2016, has already caught the eye of major international operators. Flutter purchased a controlling stake in Georgia’s largest online sportsbook and casino Adjarabet last year, to follow GVC and Betsson, owners of Crystalbet and Europebet respectively, into the market.

The Georgia – The Gaming Hub of CIS? panel at SBC Digital Summit CIS will provide an in-depth examination of how this success was achieved, what can be done to further improve the model, and what opportunities exist for potential new market entrants.

Georgia is not the only established regulated market in the region; its southern neighbour Armenia, for example, also has a licensing regime that permits online sports betting and casinos. However, both nations have populations below four million, and there are some significantly larger markets set to open up in the region over the next 12 months.

In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky’s government has passed legislation to end the country’s 11-year prohibition on all forms of gambling other than lotteries. The new law means licences will be available for land-based and online casinos, retail and online sports betting, gaming machines, online poker, and totaliser contracts, opening up a country of 42 million people to a wide range of operators.

The development has turned Ukraine into one of the global gambling industry’s biggest opportunities. The illegal gambling market in the country is thought to be worth more than €1 billion, and both the government and operators expect the regulated market to be significantly bigger.

Details of the regulations, taxes and licence fees in the Gambling Act are now being carefully scrutinised by both CIS-based operators and competitors from further afield. Parimatch has already stated its intention to bid for a licence in its home territory, and it seems only a matter of time before others reach the same decision, despite some concerns about the increased licence fees that will be levied during the transition to a regulated market.

SBC Digital Summit CIS’s Welcome to Ukraine panel will assess the opportunities for those international operators considering entering the market, and take a detailed look at the legislation and what it means for the industry.

Uzbekistan is another nation that has recognised the potential economic benefits of establishing a regulated gambling industry. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s government has unveiled plans to legalise both online and retail sports betting in 2021, in order to raise funds for the development of football and other sports in the country. At the same time, a review of the lottery sector – currently the only legal form of gambling in Uzbekistan – is underway, with the intention of replacing all existing lotteries with a new national lottery.

With a population of 33 million, Uzbekistan seemingly offers significant potential to the operators that secure betting licences. However, the full details of the regulatory regime are still to emerge and it is unclear whether applications will be accepted from overseas companies or restricted to local ones. International operators interested in the market can perhaps take some encouragement from the fact the government has opened up the country to foreign investment since the death of the long-serving president Islam Karimov in 2016.

The Uzbekistan Regulations session will investigate what format the regulated betting market may take and evaluate how big the market opportunity is.

Further panels during SBC Digital Summit CIS will address issues that influence market development right across the CIS, Ukraine and Georgia, including the evolution of payments technologies in the region, local marketing strategies, and the opportunities created by the growth of esports and the resurgent popularity of online poker.

In addition to the conference, the event will feature an interactive product display area with leading suppliers showcasing the latest sportsbook, casino and payments innovations tailored to local markets, together with a programme of networking roundtables to make it straightforward for delegates to connect and talk business.

WILLIAM HILL & CAESARS BACK THE COLTS WITH FIRST JOINT SPONSORSHIP

William Hill and Caesars Entertainment have entered a sponsorship deal with the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts.

The partnership is the first joint deal with an NFL team, and will see William Hill and Caesars join forces to engage with Colts fans throughout the American football season.

Commenting on the collaboration chief sales & marketing officer at the Indianapolis Colts, Roger VanDerSnick, said:

“In the digital age, and particularly this virtual world in which we find ourselves now, finding new ways to engage with our fans, partners and community is one of our top priorities,.

“This partnership with Caesars Entertainment and William Hill will help us better connect with Colts fans everywhere as we navigate this very unique season in 2020 and offer a greater fan experience well into the future.”

While co-president of Sports and Online Gaming for Caesars Entertainment, Chris Holdren, added:

“Our company has deep roots in Indiana. This expanded partnership with William Hill and our long relationship with the Indianapolis Colts deepens our strong ties within the community.

“Combined, both will provide an exciting entertainment experience – on gamedays and beyond.”

The partnership will also include a weekly Caesars Las Vegas prize giveaway, and a free-to-play prediction game, ‘Pick 6 Predictor’, featured on the official Colts Mobile App.

At the end of September, Caesars Entertainment reached a deal to acquire William Hill for £2.9B GBP, and confirmed that it intends to offload all of William Hill’s non-US assets post-acquisition. 888 Holdings has since expressed an interest in acquiring William Hill’s European businesses.

Staying with the NFL, a few weeks ago, BetMGM announced it had become the first sports betting partner of the Tennessee Titans

AYO.NEWS says:

William Hill and Caesars aren’t wasting any time when it comes to their campaign to dominate the US sports betting markets! At this rate, in a few years the William Hill brand will be more associated with watching an NFL game at an American sports bar than a Premier League match at a British pub – assuming there’s any bars or pubs left by then, of course!

AMERICAN GAMING ASSOC. & NHL TEAM UP TO PROMOTE RESPONSIBLE GAMBLING

Published

on

The American Gaming Association (AGA) has teamed up with the National Hockey League (NHL) to promote responsible gaming.

Though a public service campaign called ‘Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly’, which is also supported by NASCAR, the organisations hope to encourage bettors to take a safe approach to gambling through habits like setting a budget, keeping betting social in nature, and playing only with trusted operators.

The NHL says it will be promoting the message through co-branded videoboard images, public address announcements, and other hockey-focused marketing materials, with unique assets provided to each team.

Discussing the initiative NHL chief business officer, Keith Wachtel, said:

“The fan experience remains one of our highest priorities as more hockey fans than ever have the opportunity to legally and responsibly bet in their home states. Ensuring that our passionate fans know how to participate in this exciting new opportunity is important, and we’re thrilled to be working with the AGA to share the responsibility in this worthy education.”

While AGA president and CEO, Bill Miller, added:

“Teams and leagues are increasingly embracing sports betting as they explore new fan engagement opportunities during COVID-19. Educating patrons about how to engage in this activity responsibly is critical to the success of the sports betting opportunity as it continues to expand throughout the country.

“We’re thankful for the NHL’s continued leadership on responsible sports betting. Their partnership on this initiative will be important for hockey fans everywhere as they cheer on their teams in coming seasons.”

AYO.NEWS says:

It’s great to see the AGA and NHL take the initiative on this – it will be far more effective to embed responsible gambling from the outset in the United States, rather than try to tackle a deeply embedded social issue later on – as is so often the case in mature European markets.

BETVICTOR AIMS TO WIN OVER GERMAN BETTORS WITH BILDBET

Published

on

British betting operator BetVictor is partnering with Germany’s most popular newspaper to launch new sports betting platform BildBet.

The new platform, launched in partnership with Bild publisher Axel Springer SE, will give BetVictor a foothold in the newly regulated Germany betting market, which is finally launching after 15 operators received the first batch of licenses last week.

Along with BetVictor, Gauselmann Group, Novomatic, and Tipwin all secured German licenses, and GVC Holdings landed four covering its Bwin, SportingBet, Ladbrokes Coral, and Gamebookers brands.

In addition to its new German license, BetVictor is also licensed in the UK, Ireland, Malta, Gibraltar (where it is based), and the Isle of Man, and is active in 60 markets globally.

AYO.NEWS says:

Considering Bild is one of Germany’s most popular news media brands, with a daily newspaper readership of 2M and website portal views of around 200M per month, this seems like a smart move from BetVictor!
